"God, You Know, I'm Just Too Exhausted!"
When you get older, "sexy"
becomes
your husband baking sweet potatoes
or bringing you dinner in bed
or me refusing to wear makeup
and still looking defiantly beautiful
or slamming the door, turning off everything,
and holding each other.
or all the kindest things
mercy becomes the thing you want most
when we get older and we can't be
beaten into submission no matter how hard
we try to work, we can't, we're just
exhausted!  I just want
to look into my mate's eyes and smile sadly
and cry and whisper, "We did it....."
And "God, you know, i'm just too exhausted!"
