"Planting the Hosta"
The Hosta Has A Special Name
She Pulls it from its container by its lush base
 the roots are congested and thickly strangling
in that tight space they need to breathe and spread out
so we take a knife and loosen the roots apart from one another
and my grandmother chops the hosta plant in two
when the roots are unentangled she holds the hosta
as i fill in around the roots with shovels of dirt
we water it the roots are like fingers and i know
the Hosta is glad to still be alive as it drinks the water.
