"Spring"
Tremulous, the snow-kissed earth
Unfurls her virgin petals.I take thee
Trembling, oh earth, into my own
snowy hands,and marvel at thee,
oh earth, whichbringeth forth spring!
I seek forHope underneath the dead leaves
And Bones of the Flowers, and i find
where the garden is beginning
its show--in the seedlings buds
and tender shoots of root and tuber
ipray that my chubby fingers do not
unearth to reveal a fat spider crouching
inthe dead grass. There are seedlings
coming up all in the earth-- andwhat is
the earth? I find decomposing leaves,
so beautifulin their old age like death
the lace of theirveins remaining-- and bits
of wood,stalks,i See ThatThe Wonderful
Showthat is Spring, in which in the thawing
earth, little seedlings,littlelife,germinates
and isborn. I Look up at my grandmother
the Gardener of this Glorious Garden--
and see she is quetly digging with a shovel
and listening to me intently, with a smile.
InJesus' NAme,
Amen.
